Week 11 Draft Paper Workshop
Your Project Milestone 3: Draft paper is due at the end of the week. All of the participation activities this week work toward that goal, by asking you to reflect on what you’ve written (and learned) so far.
Objectives
- Write.
- Edit.
- Reflect.
Lecture Notes
Write. Copy-and-paste what you’ve already written. Write what you know. Write what you think. And then edit.
Time spent on class this week is aimed at completing your Project Milestone 3: Draft Paper. You got this.
Participation Activities
- Journal Response: Write 3 test questions
- Write 3 multiple-choice questions about the material we have covered so far in this class.
- Each question should have 2-4 response options.
- For each question, indicate the correct answer and why it is the correct answer.
- Journal Response: Good, Bad, Improve, Follow-Up tasks
- For three (different) suggestions on the Good, Bad, Improve, Follow-Up checklist we generated in Week 9, respond to each with a description of either (a) how you have addressed the suggestion in your current Course Project paper draft, or (b) how you are struggling to address it.
- Journal Response: What do you LOVE about your draft?
- Select and explain a segment of text (a paragraph, transition between paragraphs, sentence) from YOUR COURSE PROJECT PAPER DRAFT that you LOVE. What is something in your current draft that is WORKING GREAT right now.
- Paste the snippet of text (sentence, paragraph, transition that you love)
- Explain why you love it (What is it doing for the flow of your paper? Is it really clear? Is it making a point central to your topic?)
- Select and explain a segment of text (a paragraph, transition between paragraphs, sentence) from YOUR COURSE PROJECT PAPER DRAFT that you LOVE. What is something in your current draft that is WORKING GREAT right now.
- Journal Response: What do you NOT love about your draft?
- What is BROKEN in your draft? Select and explain a segment of text (eg. a paragraph, transition between paragraphs, sentence) or overall consideration (eg. organizational structure) from YOUR COURSE PROJECT PAPER DRAFT that you DO NOT LOVE. What is something in your current draft that is NOT WORKING GREAT right now.
- Paste the snippet of problem text (sentence, paragraph, transition) or a description of the general challenge (eg. what’s the current organization that just isn’t working)?
- Explain what the problem is (is it a complicated idea that’s hard to explain? does it not fit with everything else? etc.) and brainstorm/write stream-of-consciousness-style ways that you might try to address the problem.
